New Year, New Life

It has been some time since I updated my blog! After returning from the Faux Queen Pageant in San Francisco, my offline life has been subject to some significant changes.

A decision was made to relocate to the USA and finish the last year of my PhD at an American University. It puts me in closer proximity to those fabulous faux and drag queens and kings who I met during my travels last year, and allows me to work directly with a Women’s Studies department (something often lacking in Australia).

My blog then has suffered a little, simple because I didn’t feel like those of you who read it really needed to hear about how many boxes I used to pack up my house, or how long I have spent in lines addressing the various bureaucracies of moving inter-country.

Long story short… I’m in the USA for a while now and I have to learn to drive on the right side of the road.

In addition to moving to the other side of the world, I’m also on a path to completing my PhD in the next 12-14 months. For me this means, writing, creating and analysing to prepare a final creative work and a written thesis which contextualises my research journey. I’m not currently in wigs and makeup, but sitting at my computer navigating interviews, editing film, drafting scripts, and trying to figure out how it all fits together as a tangible piece of research.

On Agorafauxbia.com in the coming months, you’ll find webisodes of WerqSF (A web-based documentary series created from the interviews I collected in San Francisco). You’ll also be kept up-to-date with the preparations for a live creative work, and I’ll share links to my recent publications.

Keep reading and stick with me through this final year of study!
